Flower Tips

It's summer and flowers are everywhere, but they are not always easy to get a good picture of. What's the first thing you notice about a flower? The shape? Color? Well, the flower may seem to be a good flower but if you are trying to photograph it, take a closer look to see if any imperfections of the flower may be an issue. To get better lighting and composition for you picture, you should consider taking the picture early morning or late evening so that the sun doesn't wash out the colors of  your flower. Even try misting water on a flower during the good light times to add different texture. Another thing to be aware of is your background. If you want your flower more in focus and the background a bit of a blur, try messing with your aperture. A wider aperture (f/4)will help intensify your flower. Also notice how much clutter and what colors are in the background. Blurring the background (called depth of field) is not a solution for this and too many colors may distract from the main focus point. To achieve different backgrounds, play with the angle you use. Looking down at the flower may not be the most flattering picture but if you get eye level with it, the photo can be very intriguing. Don't be afraid to get a little dirty. Lay on the ground and have fun being creative.
